Age spots can be removed by using Cryotherapy. These are no longer being treated by many doctors on the NHS.

Milia can be removed using Cryotherapy usually only require a single treatment

Warts are very common and Cryotherapy is a proven way to remove then from skin.

they are a viral infection so usually require at least 2 treatments which can be performed 4 weeks apart

Cherry angioma as commonly referred to, the area will often become red & raised and will go down after a few hours

The lesion will shrink & slowly vanish over 2-6 weeks

A normal, benign mole will exhibit the following characteristics

Symmetrical shape – round or oval

A sharp well defined border

An even colour – usually light to dark brown or skin tone

The surface texture will be smooth , it should not itch, weep , bleed or grow in size.

Before removing any skin lesion where the diagnosis needs to be confirmed — including a mole or other pigmented lesion — Nicky will need to ensure that it has been appropriately assessed and is suitable for treatment.

This can be confirmed in one of the following ways:

• by providing a letter or documented assessment from your GP or another appropriate healthcare professional, or
• with your consent, Nicky may review the relevant information available within your NHS App/medical record to confirm that an appropriate assessment has already taken place.

High-quality images of the lesion are taken in clinic and submitted for review by a Consultant Dermatologist. A specialist report is then provided, usually within 48 hours, advising on the appropriate next steps.

This can help determine whether the lesion is suitable for treatment in clinic or whether further investigation or referral is required.

Not all lesions are suitable for cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is only appropriate for certain benign skin lesions.

Depending on the type, depth, location and clinical assessment of the lesion, another treatment may be more appropriate. This could include a shave excision, surgical excision or another procedure where histopathological examination of the removed tissue is required.

Where this is indicated, Nicky will not proceed with cryotherapy and will instead advise or refer you to the most appropriate healthcare professional or specialist service.

Patient safety and appropriate diagnosis always come before cosmetic removal.

The area treated is frozen by Cryotherapy. This kills the localised cells in the area which cause them to shrivel and die. The treated area may go darker over a few weeks, but will return to normal pigmented skin in about 6 weeks.

The duration of the treatment time will depend on the surface area and the thickness of the tissue being treated. Upon the clinical evaluation of the depth of the area, the clinician will choose an application time from 1 to 30 seconds

Cryotherapy is a relatively low-risk procedure. It delivers a freeze directly to the area, and not thehealthy surrounding tissue.

The Cryotherapy device is both CE and FDA registered.

There will be a pain sensation similar to a stinging nettle on the skin when the Nitrous Oxide reaches the bottom of the area. There might be a little
residual stinging for a few minutes after treatment, this is normal.

A full medical consultation is required to assess suitability

This list is not exhaustive , however a full thorough medical consultation will help to determine suitability

Following cryotherapy, the treated area may become red, swollen, tender or slightly sore. A small blister or scab can also develop as part of the normal healing process.

To support healing, we recommend that you:

• keep the area clean and dry
• avoid rubbing, picking or scratching the treated area
• do not deliberately burst any blister that forms
• allow any scab or crust to fall away naturally
• avoid applying makeup directly over the area until the skin surface has healed
• avoid swimming, saunas and steam rooms until the area is dry and healing well
• use a broad-spectrum SPF 30–50 on exposed areas once the skin surface has healed, as the treated skin may be more sensitive to pigmentation changes
• avoid harsh skincare products, acids, retinoids or exfoliation over the area until it has fully recovered

Healing time varies depending on the size, depth and location of the lesion, but most areas settle over approximately 1–3 weeks.

Some temporary changes in skin colour can occur following treatment, including lighter or darker pigmentation, particularly in darker skin types.
